Ladies, have you been looking for the perfect opportunity to pop the question? With 2016 being a leap year, it’s your window of opportunity to make a move and propose to your loved one.
Let’s take a look at why and where this tradition has come from…
Normally we have 365 days in a year, but a leap year has one more. A leap year occurs every four years to help align the calendar year with the solar year as it takes the earth 365.25 days to complete its orbit around the sun.
Leap years’ date back to 42BC and were added to the calendar by Julius Cesar.
According to folklore tradition a leap year was not recognised as an official day. Since there were no legal statuses on this day, formal traditions did not apply, allowing women to step outside of the traditional norm and propose to men rather than the other way around!
